Hunter Education Courses!
If a person wants to hunt in the province of Ontario, you must obtain your Ontario Outdoors Card and purchase an
Ontario hunting license. You qualify to purchase this card & licenses by attending the mandatory Ontario Hunter
Education Program (OHEP) Ontario hunter Education Course (OHEC) delivered by an Instructor certified and duly
authorized by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry (MNR&F) and pass the written exam at the end of the class.
The purpose of the Hunter Education program is to teach you the knowledge and skills essential to become a safe and
ethical hunter, and to take part in Ontario’s great outdoor heritage! Some of the concepts you will learn are:
What are Ecology, Ecosystems, and Wildlife management?
Current Hunting Laws and associated regulations.
Hunter responsibilities, the hunter’s role in society, & ethical hunting principals.
Hunting techniques for big game, small game, and waterfowl.
Proper Hunting attire, and Survival equipment and techniques.
And reinforce firearms safety taught in the CFSC Firearms Safety course.
The OHEC Hunter Education course is a minimum of 10 hours (excluding breaks & lunch)
to 12.5 hours, and can be taught in a single long day, or spread over an 8 hour day and a 4 hour evening.
The 70 question, multiple-choice format exam follows.
It can also be taught as a “One-Stop” Firearms/Hunter Education course when delivered back-to-back with the CFSC
Firearms Safety Course; CFSC one day, followed by the OHEC class. Each class would be followed by its respective exams.
